MOUSE PEST CONTROL VANCOUVER
About the House Mouse
The most common mouse in the Lower Mainland that infests structures is the “house mouse.” These mice are small and slender and can enter a house or building through very small openings.
The house mouse is not limited by lack of water. Mice can get enough water to survive from the food they eat. The house mouse can adapt well to a stressful environment, and can become dormant to conserve energy during extreme hot or cold conditions.
Female house mice produce seven or more litters per year, with 5-7 pups per litter. The house mouse will spend many generations in the home. The house mouse droppings are small (6mm. long), less than the size of a grain of rice. Mice can gnaw through wood, soft mortar and drywall and can squeeze through small cracks 1 cm. in size. Mouse proofing a house or building can be difficult because they gain entry through such small holes.
Methods of House Mouse Control – Mouse Trapping
The preferred method to control mice is a series of mouse trapping services. With mouse trapping, the mice are caught and removed. Trapping mice eliminates the need for poisons. Poisoned mice may crawl away and die in a non-accessible area, causing a bad odour.
Poisons could be used in low-accessible areas where populations are large. Low-accessible areas could be in crawl and attic spaces. Poisons could also be used in sheds and garages where odour problems may be minimal.
At Gilpins Pest Control, our procedure is to service the home 3-5 times the first 7-10 days. If additional service is required, we will then trap until all the mice have been eliminated. Service for the average-sized home will carry a one-year warranty. Contact us to learn more about our mice control methods.
